In broadest terms, ultrasound is a screening method that acquires images of body in conditions that require follow-up and control. An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves. The sound waves emitted by the device help doctors evaluate especially soft tissues.

What are indications of ultrasonography?

Pregnancy is usually the first condition that comes to mind. Development of fetus can be monitored with this test during pregnancy. However, indications of ultrasound are not limited to pregnancy. Doctors usually order ultrasonography to investigate etiology of a pain or a swelling in internal organs. In addition, ultrasonography is included in check-up procedure.
