It is considered for problems that originate from or involve esophagus, stomach and intestines. Endoscopy can performed to make diagnosis, take biopsy specimen and treat the condition. Endoscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment various conditions, such as tumor, wound or polyp, in esophagus, stomach, small intestines and colon.
In addition to above mentioned conditions, endoscopy is used to correct stenosis of esophagus, extirpate polyps, remove foreign bodies from stomach and remove gall bladder if it is infected.
In addition to diseases of stomach and intestines, an endoscopic method is used for diagnosis of pancreatitis – inflammation of pancreas. According to World Health Organization, all people older than 45 should have gastroscopy at least once even if there is no complaint. Considering colonoscopy, same advices are made for people older than 50.
